The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Homicide Section is investigating a double shooting that left one 29-year-old male dead and a 31-year-old male in hospital last night.

Just after 10:30 p.m., Saturday, March 30, 2013, Southeast Division patrol officers responded to a report of shots fired inside a pizza restaurant along Mill Woods Road. Officers located two wounded males when they entered the premises, and immediately provided medical assistance.

It is believed an argument inside the restaurant quickly escalated to an altercation involving four male acquaintances. A gun was produced, resulting in two of the males being shot, one fatally. The second male remains in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Blair Michael Cunningham, 29.

The suspect, believed to be in his mid 20s, fled the premises shortly before police arrived. He is described as a light skinned black male with short dark hair, approximately 5’9” tall with a stocky build. He was last seen wearing a coat over a hoodie.

"While this incident does not appear to be a random shooting, it is definitely a concern that it occurred in a public establishment," says Staff Sgt. Bill Clark, of the EPS Homicide Section. “Fortunately the restaurant where the shooting occurred has a strong, proactive working relationship with the police (as part of the “Best Bar None” Program), which will hopefully assist us in identifying the suspect.”

An autopsy for Cunningham is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.tipsubmit.com/start.htm.
