Edmonton’s finest will be camping out for 53 hours on the roof of both Cabela’s Edmonton locations from June 16 to 18 for the Free our Finest fundraiser. This event is another unique way to raise money for Special Olympics Alberta.
Citizens are welcome to come down to one of the Cabela’s locations for family-friendly events and help get our officers off the roof by donating to a fantastic cause. Enjoy demonstrations and a barbecue, meet athletes and officers, and purchase merchandise. Children can even take part in Junior Officer Training.
The Free our Finest’s official opening ceremony starts at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017 at Cabela’s South location. You can join us throughout the weekend at either Cabela’s locations at 15320 - 37 Street or 6150 Currents Drive.
On Saturday, June 17, the public is also invited to the south Edmonton Cabela’s location for the Edmonton Final Leg Torch Run.
The tradition of the Final Leg Torch Run is for law enforcement officers representing their community to act as ‘Guardians of the Flame’ and carry the Special Olympics Torch and ‘Flame of Hope’ to officially start the 2017 Special Olympics Alberta Summer Games in Medicine Hat.
Edmonton is the first location for the ‘Flame of Hope’ as it travels back to Medicine Hat on July 7, 2017.
Members from the Edmonton Police Service (EPS), Strathcona County Enforcement, Alberta Sheriffs, Alberta Corrections, Alberta Fish & Wildlife, CN Police and Alberta Peace Officers will run from the EPS’ Southwest Division Station carrying the Special Olympics ‘Flame of Hope’ Torch. They will meet their fellow law enforcement members taking part in the Free our Finest event at the Cabela’s south store location.
The Final Leg Torch Run event beginsJune 17, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Edmonton Police Service Southwest Division (1351 Windermere Way SW) to Cabela’s south location (6150 Currents Drive NW).
The two fundraising events would not be possible without the support of Cabela’s, Maple Leaf Foods, King Scaffolding, Sawmill, and Aluma Systems.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is known for their unique fundraising events such as the Polar Plunge, which raised over $167,000 this year, and Cops and Crepes.
Internationally, LETR for Special Olympics is the largest grassroots fundraiser and awareness vehicle for Special Olympics. More than 85,000 law enforcement officers from Canada, the United States, and 46 countries internationally form the largest grassroots fundraiser for Special Olympics.
