Southeast Division invites the community to a BBQ on May 15 and 16 at Mill Woods Town Centre and May 17 and 18 at Bonnie Doon Mall as part of the Community Action Team (CAT) deployment.

Patrol officers, Beat officers, Community Liaison Constables and the Neighbourhood Empowerment Team (NET) will interact with citizens at the BBQ, provide crime prevention tips and will give away free anti-theft license plate screws for vehicles.

“The community BBQ will give citizens a chance to speak to police officers and ask them any questions they have,” says Acting Staff Sgt. Shawn Corrigan with Southeast Division.

As part of the EPS Violence Reduction Strategy, this CAT deployment will increase police presence and deter violence by using prevention, intervention and suppression tactics. Enforcement units will be targeting criminal activity in the area and social agencies will provide support to vulnerable persons. Traffic Section, patrol and by-law officers, EPS Cadets and the Mill Woods Community Patrol will target crime “hot-spots” in the neighbourhood.

The public is invited for a free BBQ:

  • May 15 – 16 at 6 p.m. at Mill Woods Town Centre in the Target parking lot
  • May 17 – 18 at 6 p.m. at Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre in the Safeway parking lot

CAT deployments have been successful in addressing a wide range of criminal and social issues since the monthly initiative began in September 2011. For more information about the EPS Violence Reduction Strategy, please visit www.edmontonpolice.ca/vrs.
