An Edmonton Police Service (EPS) officer was charged today in relation to an alleged incident which took place on June 10th, 2014.
Const. Nathan Downing, a 6-year member with the EPS, was charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm pursuant to section 267(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada. The charge stems from an on-duty incident during an arrest. The constable has been removed from frontline patrol duties.
The charge follows an in-depth investigation by the EPS Professional Standards Branch which was subsequently reviewed by Alberta Justice.
As the matter is currently before the courts, the EPS is not able to provide further comment on the incident or investigation.
