Two Edmonton Police Service (EPS) officers were charged today, Friday, Mar. 6, 2015 with selling steroids.

The EPS became aware of allegations in 2013 and immediately contacted the Government of Alberta’s Director of Law Enforcement, who directed the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) to initiate an investigation. Shortly thereafter, the EPS developed an internal service directive prohibiting the use or possession of steroids without a prescription.

Det. Greg Lewis, a 10-year member is charged withtrafficking in a controlled substance (x3).

Cst. Darren French, a 25-year member is chargedwith trafficking in a controlled substance.

Both Lewis and French have been relieved from duty without pay.

The EPS Professional Standards Branch will now be conducting a thorough internal investigation under the Police Act into the trafficking allegations as well as any officer who is alleged to have obtained and/or used steroids.
