Southwest Division patrol members initially responded to a traffic collision call at approximately 5:52 p.m. tonight, Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015. It was reported that a White Dodge pick-up truck struck another vehicle from behind, while travelling eastbound on 63 Avenue.
The driver of the pick-up truck is alleged to have fled the scene of that hit-and-run collision, before travelling north on Gateway Blvd. with the complainant following. The driver of the suspect vehicle then continued eastbound on Whyte Avenue, where it was reported that the male suspect driver then struck a 63-year-old male pedestrian who was crossing Whyte Avenue at 101 Street.
Witnesses told police that the suspect driver then fled that pedestrian collision scene, before being boxed in by several motorists just west of 99 Street on Whyte Avenue.
Troy Clayton Tessman, 35, was taken into custody, and multiple charges are pending.
The male pedestrian was taken to hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.
The Edmonton Police Service Major Collision Investigations Unit has since taken over the investigation.
