The Edmonton Police Service has charged the driver of an Edmonton Transit System bus involved in a pedestrian collision that left a child with injuries on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014.

At approximately 8:05 a.m. on Sept. 23, Southwest Division patrol officers responded to Rutherford Road and 16A Avenue after it was reported that an ETS bus was pulling away from a marked bus stop when an 11-year-old female attempted to board the bus through the front passenger door. The child got caught in the door, and was allegedly dragged for a short distance by the vehicle.

It was reported that the child freed herself from the door and her leg was run over by the vehicle. She was treated on scene and transported to hospital by EMS with non-life threatening injuries.

The EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit took over the investigation and has charged ETS driver Sardul Purewal, 65, with careless driving.
