The Edmonton Police Service Major Collision Investigations Section is investigating what appears to be a road racing incident that sent two motorcyclists to hospital with serious injuries. Southeast Division patrol members responded to an area near 50 Street and 103 Avenue, at approximately 11:30 a.m. today, Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014. Upon arrival, officers discovered two males, one lying on the road and the other on the sidewalk, suffering from multiple injuries.

Witnesses told police that it appeared the motorcyclists were racing northbound on 50th Street, and weaving in and out of traffic, when they allegedly struck a Dodge Ram pick-up truck, that was turning east into a residential driveway. That stretch of roadway runs through the residential neighbourhood of Capilano. It carries a posted maximum speed limit of 50 km/h.

Paramedics treated the two males, aged 40 and 48, on scene, before transporting them to hospital with multiple injuries.
