Background

The Edmonton Police Service is asking the public for assistance in locating a suspect in connection with a kidnapping and assault that occurred earlier this week.

On Sunday, July 20, 2014 at approximately 2:20 a.m. police responded to the area of 104 Street and 24 Avenue to a report of an alleged kidnapping of a 23-year-old female. It was reported that the accused allegedly attempted to kidnap the female after she was dropped off at home from her place of employment. The complainant fought back and managed to safely escape while a witness called police.

It was reported that the accused then used a stolen vehicle to chase the complainant and witness while they drove out of the area.

EPS Air-1 was called in to assist patrol and located the suspect vehicle in the area of Gateway Blvd. and 34 Avenue. The suspect vehicle continued to intimidate the other vehicle and rammed it several times. At times, both of the vehicles were travelling at speeds of up to 140 km/h.

In the area of 80 Avenue and Gateway Blvd, the suspect vehicle collided with a power box and the other vehicle was able to locate a marked police car that was in the area for assistance.

After the collision with the power box, Air-1 continued to monitor the suspect vehicle. As the suspect vehicle parked in the Whyte Avenue area, a marked patrol car pulled in behind. The suspect vehicle then fled police and the driver eventually abandoned the vehicle in the area of 104 Street and 81 Avenue.

The suspect fled on foot and disappeared into pedestrian traffic on Whyte Avenue. Patrol’s attempt to locate him was unsuccessful.

Kemol Creary, 25, has warrants for his arrest for criminal hit and run, kidnapping, assault, dangerous driving, drive while suspended, criminal flight, breach of emergency protection order(x2), possession of stolen property over $5,000, and breach of recognizance (x4).
