Autopsy complete in burning vehicle homicide; police release suspect video

An autopsy has been completed in the homicide of a man found dead in a burning vehicle in northeast Edmonton last week.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, Northeast Branch patrol officers were called to assist Edmonton Fire Rescue Services in response to a burning truck in the area of 146 Avenue and 25 Street. Once the fire was extinguished, the body of a male was discovered inside the vehicle.

On Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023, the Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on the deceased male and determined that the manner of death is homicide. The cause of death is being withheld at this time for investigative reasons. The deceased has not yet been identified.

Investigators have recovered area surveillance video of the suspect vehicle before it was found burning with the victim’s body inside. The vehicle, a white Chevrolet pickup truck, was captured circling the Fraser neighbourhood between the hours of 11:45 p.m. on Aug. 3 and 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 4.

Video of a suspect who was seen running away from the scene has also been obtained.

Residents and businesses in the area are asked to check their security cameras for video of anyone running near the scene at 146 Avenue and 25 Street.
