The Edmonton Police Service is investigating an assault involving a teenaged girl, who was allegedly jumped from behind by a male suspect, while on her way home from school yesterday afternoon.

The alleged assault occurred just before 5 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, near a convenience store on Town Centre Boulevard. The female victim was walking home from her bus stop, southbound on the east side of the street. She then proceeded to cross the street, and continued on southbound past a liquor store, before turning north in to a nearby alley where the assault occurred.

The attacker then forced her to the ground. A struggle ensued, before the teen girl was able to successfully break free and run to safety at a nearby residence.

The occupant of the residence immediately contacted police and reported the incident. The girl suffered minor physical injuries.

Investigators believe this most recent incident may be linked to a previous assault that took place back on Nov. 8, 2013 near Tanner Wynd.

In that incident, the perpetrator appeared to be running by a woman, before suddenly turning and aggressively pushing her against a fence.

The suspect is described as being a male, approximately 5'10, average build and wearing dark clothing with a balaclava and gloves.

Anyone with information about these assaults is asked to contact the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567or #377 from a mobile phone.  Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.tipsubmit.com/start.htm.
