The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has charged an 18-year-old male in relation to a violent assault outside of a bus in February and a second assault earlier this month.
On Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at approximately 3:07 p.m., a 50-year-old male was getting off a bus that was stopped on 87 Avenue west of 156 Street. As the man got off, a male suspect followed him and stabbed him in the back prior to deploying bear spray in his face. The suspect then fled in a northwest direction through the parking lot of the shopping complex. The injured male was treated and transported to hospital by paramedics with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
On Friday, Mar. 3, 2023, at approximately 5:00 p.m., a 22-year-old male was leaving West Edmonton Mall when he was confronted by a male suspect. The suspect deployed bear spray in the face of the 22-year-old prior to fleeing northbound in the parking lot across from 90 Avenue.
Following an extensive investigation, 18-year-old Brayden Alexander Miller was identified as the suspect in both incidents. Miller has since been charged with a number of charges including aggravated assault and assault with a weapon (x2) in relation to the February incident. He is also charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon in relation to the March incident.
Both assaults appear to be random as the suspect was not known to either of the victims.
