The Edmonton Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on Monday, Mar. 20, 2023, and confirmed that Usama Ibrahinadan, 20, died from gunshot injuries. The manner of death is homicide.

Northeast Branch patrol officers responded to a weapons complaint north of 144 Avenue and 72 Street at approximately 6:25 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased male lying in the street. EPS Homicide Section detectives took over the investigation.
