Police seek public's assistance identifying suspect in animal cruelty investigation

The Edmonton Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance identifying a suspect in relation to an animal cruelty incident that took place in west Edmonton earlier this month.

It was reported to police that on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2020, at approximately 2:15 p.m. residents witnessed a male violently punching a dog multiple times in the area of 179 Street and 80A Avenue. The witnesses reportedly tried to approach the male; however, he became confrontational and immediately left the area eastbound on 80 A Avenue. Witnesses reported that they have seen the male walking this dog in the neighbourhood before.

Despite a thorough investigation, officers have been unable to identify or locate the male and are releasing photos of the male and the dog in hopes that someone may recognize them and contact police.

The male is described as white with brown hair that was pulled back in a ponytail. He was reportedly wearing a dark t-shirt, knee length shorts and a dark baseball cap.

The dog is described as a large tan-coloured Mastiff mix breed who the male reportedly referred to as “Macy” or “Lacy.”
