On Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at approximately 3:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a male suspect who allegedly violently assaulted an 84-year-old female. At approximately 2:45 p.m., the female complainant was reportedly watering the front lawn at a townhome in the area of 134 Avenue and 40 Street when the suspect approached her on foot, punched her in the face and kicked her repeatedly after she fell to the ground. The suspect then immediately fled on foot.
The female was taken to hospital with serious non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s or 30s, approximately 5’6” – 5’9” in height, with a large muscular or heavy-set stature. He was wearing a black windbreaker-style jacket, black or very dark blue jeans, white runners and a dark-coloured baseball cap.
“The violent and random nature of this assault against a senior citizen is unusual and troubling,” says Det. Sonja Wepruk. “We are releasing video of the suspect that was recorded just before the assault occurred in the hopes that it will generate tips to help identify this man.”
