Autopsy results confirm young man was stabbed to death

The Edmonton Medical Examiner has confirmed that Gearard Wright, 20, of Edmonton, died from a stab wound early Sunday morning, with the manner of death being homicide. Wright sustained life-threatening injuries during an early-morning altercation that occurred in the Ermineskin neighbourhood near 24 Avenue and 104 Street, at approximately 1:50 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019.
           
Homicide detectives continue to investigate, and are encouraging anyone with information about the suspect(s) involved and/or the incident

Every investigation is evaluated on a case by case basis. The EPS has decided to release the name of the deceased in this investigation for the following reasons: it serves an investigative purpose.

Background:
Southwest Division patrol officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a disturbance in the
Ermineskin neighbourhood near 24 Avenue and 104 Street early Sunday morning.

Upon arrival, police found an injured male lying on the ground outside of an apartment complex. The male was eventually pronounced deceased on scene by EMS paramedics.
