Police seek public’s assistance in identifying vehicle involved in May 24 homicide

The Edmonton Police Service is releasing a photo of a vehicle believed to be involved in a May 24 homicide in Southwest Edmonton.

Detectives are releasing a photo of a dark coloured 2014 or 2015 Kia Optima that is believed to be involved in the murder of 25-year-old Harry Gillis.

Police are asking anyone to come forward who may have information about potential occupants or owners of this vehicle, or who may have seen this vehicle in the early morning hours of May 24 in the area of 111 Street and 23 Avenue.

Background

 

At approximately 1 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2018, Southwest Division police responded to reports of gunshots fired in the area of 111 Street and 23 Avenue. A short time later, it was reported that a 25-year-old male arrived at a hospital with gunshot wounds. The victim had been shot while sitting in the rear seat of a taxi cab. The taxi driver, who was not involved in the shooting, immediately contacted the taxi company’s dispatch and transported the victim to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 6 a.m. on Thursday May 24, 2018.

 

An autopsy conducted by the Edmonton Medical Examiner on Friday, May 25, 2018 confirmed that Harry Gillis, 25, died of gunshot wounds.

 

Homicide Section has deemed the manner of death to be homicide. Detectives continue to investigate.

 

Every file is evaluated on a case by case basis. The EPS has decided to release the name of the deceased as it serves an investigative purpose.
