Join us and many other local enforcement agencies as we make waves in Lake Summerside for Special Olympics Alberta.
Every year, the EPS proudly participates in the Law Enforcement Torch Run’s Polar Plunge alongside our law enforcement partners, Special Olympic athletes, and the hundreds of brave citizens who enjoy a chill of a lifetime. Each year more Edmontonians step up to the challenge, so we hope to see over 300 adventurous plungers joining in with our own Deputy Chief, Brian Simpson.
“Jumping into freezing wintery water is nothing compared to the challenges many Special Olympics athletes face every day of their lives. Every plunger who endures a few moments of cold will help an Alberta Special Olympic athlete achieve their goals,” explains Constable Amanda Trenchard. “It’s a unique act to raise awareness and support for a great cause.”
Plungers are asked to raise a minimum donation of $75, which will help make a difference to more than 3,300 Special Olympic Alberta athletes. The Alberta-wide fundraiser hopes to break their attendance record and see 1000 plungers participating province-wide.
Interested participants can still register for the Plunge and walk-in plungers on Sunday are welcome. If you’d rather show your support for the event by staying warm, you can donate to a “plunger” or the event itself.
The event is free to the public and we encourage fans, families and spectators to join us and watch the action and excitement. The Polar Plunge Edmonton will have skating, snowshoeing, marshmallow roasting and other family-fun events for free or with a donation.

Background
Each year the LETR hosts fundraising events. The money raised gives Special Olympians opportunities to train and compete in a variety of sports. Founded in 1981, the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) aims to increase awareness of Special Olympics and ensures that sporting opportunities for individuals with disabilities can continue in various cities, including Edmonton.
