Background

On Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018 at approximately 12:15 a.m., it was reported to police that a male broke into a vehicle in the area of 96 Avenue and 180 Street (La Perle neighborhood). Upon gaining entry, the registered owner witnessed the male suspect inside her vehicle. The owner then allegedly locked the doors remotely, thus confining the male suspect to the vehicle.

To escape the vehicle, it is alleged the male suspect discharged a long-barrelled firearm, shattering the vehicle’s windows and striking a nearby residence. The suspect then fled the scene on foot and was apprehended a block away. No one was injured as a result of this incident.

Police have assembled a search team in efforts to recoverthe long-barrelled firearm which is believed to have been discarded in the area of 96 Avenue and 180 Street. Officers are asking residents who live in the La Perle neighborhood to check their properties thoroughly and contact the EPS if the firearm is located.
