Patrol officers from Southeast Division were dispatched to the scene at approximately 4:40 a.m. this morning, Friday, June 17, 2016.
Upon arrival, police located a deceased adult male on the northbound lanes of Highway 2 (Queen Elizabeth Highway), just north of Gateway Park.
At the time of the collision, traffic flow has been described as ‘light’ and the investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the male on the roadway in the moments prior to the collision. Initial investigation suggests the male was attempting to cross the roadway prior to being struck.
The northbound ambulance had a patient on board, however it was travelling at normal highway speeds and was not in emergency response mode at the time. Based on the investigation thus far, additional emergency lights or sirens were not required for the manner in which the ambulance was operating. Speed and/or alcohol are not factors in this investigation.
Police are continuing with this investigation throughout the morning and attempts are being made to notify next of kin.
Gateway Boulevard was shut down for the initial scene investigation until 8:30 a.m.
