A 22-year-old Edmonton man is facing charges in connection with the 2014 hit-and-run death of a pedestrian in southwest Edmonton.

It is alleged the vehicle Sahil Arora was driving struck and killed a 46-year-old man on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, on Rabbit Hill Road. It is believed the male pedestrian was walking from the southeast corner to the southwest corner in a marked crosswalk at Hodgson Boulevard when he was struck by a vehicle.

The investigation culminated with the arrest of Arora last week, thanks in part to an observant member of the public and some persistent police work undertaken by investigators.

“We were able to identify the vehicle thanks to a tip from the public, eventually locating the accused overseas, and he agreed to return to Canada to face the charges,” explained Sgt. Brad Harsch, who has been investigating the pedestrian fatality over the last 16 months.

“The deceased’s family has been living this nightmare for the last year and half. Hopefully, in some small way, this will bring a level of closure for his wife and two children,” said Harsch.

Arora is charged with hit and run causing death and dangerous driving causing death.
