Police lay more than 160 fraud and theft charges

After a lengthy investigation, Edmonton Police Service has charged a male suspect in connection with multiple offenses including forgery.

A male suspect, who is reported to have used as many as 22 aliases, was allegedly found to be in possession of numerous forged documents including birth certificates, driver’s licenses, health care cards, marriage certificates, passports, as well as several credit cards, gift certificates and other documents. Police executed a search warrant relating to this case at a residence in the area of 101 Avenue and 121 Street in Edmonton on Feb. 22, 2013. Inside the residence, police found documents from approximately 120 individuals and businesses that were allegedly targeted by the suspect.

“As a result of the large number of complainants this was a complex and lengthy investigation,” says Det. Rob Chan, Criminal Investigation Section with Southeast Division. “It is crucial to report your stolen identification to police so we can have more information to work with in our investigations.”

The Edmonton Police Service has charged Nathan David Crone, 27, of Edmonton with 164 charges including possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of the instruments for counterfeiting, possession of the instruments for forgery, forgery, possession of a stolen credit card, intent to obtain property and obtaining and possessing identity information.
